      Linda Showalter Dies in Tragic Pedestrian Accident in Marion

      The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marion Post is currently investigating a tragic accident involving a pedestrian that took place on July 8 at 11:30 a.m. on Center Street near Chicago Avenue in Marion. The incident resulted in the death of 72-year-old Linda Showalter from Bellville.

      During the initial investigation, authorities discovered that an 85-year-old Marion resident, Sandra Brown, was driving a Ford Escape and struck Showalter on the sidewalk while pulling out of a private drive onto Center Street. The impact propelled Showalter and the Escape into the path of an eastbound Kenworth T480 truck driven by 53-year-old James McGinnis of Marion, resulting in a secondary collision.

      Linda Showalter suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Sandra Brown and her passenger, 79-year-old Diane Wilcox, also from Marion, sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Marion General Hospital. Showalter was accompanied by a 7-year-old and a 2-year-old at the time of the accident. The 2-year-old sustained minor injuries, while the 7-year-old and James McGinnis were unharmed.

      The scene of the accident saw a prompt response from multiple emergency services. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Marion City Department of Fire and EMS, Marion Police Department, and Kirby’s Towing.
