      The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a tragic auto-pedestrian collision that claimed the life of 36-year-old Juan Eufracio Lopez Gutierrez, a resident of Edcouch. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, around 4:30 a.m., on FM 1925 west of Engelman Road, just north of Elsa.

      According to DPS spokesperson Sgt. Maria Hernandez, preliminary findings indicate that the collision involved a Chrysler Town and Country, driven by an unidentified male, traveling eastbound on FM 1925. Gutierrez was crossing FM 1925 when he was struck by the Chrysler. The force of the impact propelled Gutierrez into the air, where he then landed on the front windshield of a Chevrolet Silverado, which was also traveling eastbound on FM 1925. The Silverado was occupied by a male driver and two male passengers.

      Sgt. Hernandez confirmed that following the secondary impact, Gutierrez fell onto the pavement. Despite the severity of the collision, the drivers and passengers of both vehicles were unharmed and did not require hospitalization. Tragically, Juan Eufracio Lopez Gutierrez succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

      The collision has left the community in mourning, with many expressing their condolences to Gutierrez’s family. He was remembered as a beloved member of the Edcouch community, whose sudden loss has deeply affected those who knew him.

      The DPS is continuing its investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
