      George Rouman, President of Rouman Cinema, Dies in Tragic Highway 51 Accident

      The Rhinelander community mourns the loss of George Rouman, the esteemed President of Rouman Cinema, who tragically passed away following a fatal accident on Sunday, June 9, 2024. The collision occurred late Sunday night on Highway 51, north of Tamarack Lane, claiming Rouman’s life and injuring another individual.

      The devastating incident was first reported through multiple 911 calls around 10:55 p.m. Responding deputies arrived at a chaotic scene with a silver SUV overturned on the roadway. The SUV, driven by a 20-year-old woman from Crandon, had its driver trapped inside. Emergency crews worked tirelessly to extricate her from the wreckage, but tragically, a dog traveling with her did not survive.

      The other vehicle involved, a white utility van, was driven by 51-year-old George Rouman of Rhinelander. Sadly, Rouman was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman in the SUV was traveling southbound on Highway 51 when she lost control for unknown reasons. Her vehicle crossed the median into the path of the northbound utility van, resulting in the fatal collision. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Born and raised in Rhinelander, Rouman attended Rhinelander High School from 1986 to 1990 and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1995, with a degree in Business, Management, and Marketing.

      Rouman’s professional journey was distinguished by his commitment to the entertainment and business industries. He started as a Human Resources Recruitment Supervisor at Six Flags Great America from 1997 to 1999. He then took on significant roles, including Co-Chairman of the Geneva Convention and President of the National Association of Theater Owners-Wisconsin/Upper Michigan. Rouman was also the owner of the Fun Factory Sweet Shoppe in Rhinelander and played a crucial role in the Rouman Amusement Company, Inc.

      George Rouman’s contributions extended far beyond his professional achievements. He was deeply involved in the community, and his leadership and vision left a lasting impact. His passing is a significant loss to Rhinelander, where he was widely respected and admired.
