Tragic Collision on Route 37 Claims Life of Mt. Vernon Woman

A devastating accident on Route 37, just north of Mt. Vernon, resulted in the death of a 31-year-old woman on Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as Aimee Bockhol, was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple injuries sustained in the collision. Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse confirmed her identity and the cause of her tragic demise.

The collision occurred around 7:18 a.m. near Old Salem Road. According to reports from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies, Aimee Bockhol was driving northbound when her vehicle veered across the centerline. Her car struck the rear of a southbound car driven by 81-year-old Leroy Tucker from Madison, Illinois. The force of the impact caused Tucker’s vehicle to spin around and come to a halt in the northbound lane.

The situation escalated when Bockhol’s car continued moving and collided with a southbound semi-truck driven by 27-year-old Conner Kempf from Jasper, Indiana. The semi-truck subsequently veered off into a roadside ditch before crossing both lanes of Route 37, further complicating the scene.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, but unfortunately, Aimee Bockhol was trapped in her vehicle and did not survive the collision. Both Leroy Tucker and Conner Kempf sustained injuries and were transported to Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon for medical treatment. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.

The tragic incident led to the closure of Route 37 for approximately three hours to allow for cleanup and a thorough investigation. A State Police Accident Reconstructionist was called to the scene to piece together the events leading to the crash and to determine the factors involved.
