Off-Duty Hardin County Deputy and wife killed in Fatal motorcycle crash Sunday night

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is investigating a tragic crash that claimed the lives of an off-duty Hardin County sheriff’s deputy and his passenger over the weekend. The fatal collision occurred on Sunday evening, just after 8:05 p.m., at the intersection of the U.S. 31W bypass and the westbound ramp to the Western Kentucky Parkway (WKP).

According to a KSP report, the incident involved a 2023 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2024 Buick Envista. The motorcycle was traveling on the U.S. 31W bypass when the Buick attempted to make a sharp turn onto the WKP exit ramp. The abrupt maneuver caused the motorcycle to lose control and veer off onto the ramp’s shoulder.

The Hardin County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the motorcycle was operated by Deputy Billy Edwards, 67, of Elizabethtown, with Kathy Edwards, 58, also of Elizabethtown, riding as a passenger. Tragically, both were ejected from the motorcycle upon impact and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Despite the severity of the crash, the driver and passenger of the Buick Envista were unharmed. Emergency response teams from the Elizabethtown Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County EMS, and the Hardin County Coroner’s Office were all present to assist at the scene.
