Charlotte, NC — A tragic head-on collision on Monroe Road resulted in the death of Steven Velez, 61, early Sunday evening. The accident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the 4700 block of Monroe Road, near Woonsocket Lane and Richland Drive.

Steven Velez was driving a Nissan Xterra northwest on Monroe Road when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD), Velez’s Nissan crossed over the center concrete median and collided head-on with a Honda Accord traveling in the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was severe, leading to significant damage to both vehicles.
