Fatal Motorcycle Accident in North Charlotte Claims Life of Bryan Alexander Gonzalez Barreras

A tragic motorcycle accident in north Charlotte on Monday evening has resulted in the death of 21-year-old Bryan Alexander Gonzalez Barreras. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) reported that the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of West W.T. Harris Boulevard and Interstate 485, close to Northlake Mall.

According to law enforcement, the crash involved a 2020 Honda CR-V and a 2011 Kawasaki motorcycle, both of which sustained significant damage. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the motorcycle severely damaged. Barreras, who was the motorcyclist, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The investigation revealed that the driver of the Honda CR-V was attempting to make a left turn from W.T. Harris Boulevard onto the I-485 on-ramp when the motorcycle collided with the SUV at high speed. Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Barreras’ helmet was not properly secured, which may have impacted its effectiveness during the collision. Fortunately, the occupants of the CR-V, including the driver and two passengers, were unharmed in the accident.

Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed may have contributed to the crash. A toxicology report is pending to determine if any substances may have influenced Barreras’ riding abilities. At this time, no charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
