      The Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) and Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Mark Opperman, the president and founder of Veterinary Management Consultation Inc. (VMC Inc.). Mark, a certified veterinary practice manager and renowned expert in veterinary management, passed away suddenly following a medical emergency on Monday, July 23, 2024. His untimely death has left a profound void in the veterinary community.

      Mark Opperman, a beloved figure in the veterinary world, dedicated his life to advancing veterinary practice management. Through his consulting firm, VMC Inc., based in Evergreen, Colorado, he provided invaluable guidance to over 800 veterinary hospitals across North America. His expertise covered a wide range of services, including associate hiring, partnership formation, exit strategies, employee issues, profitability, and efficiency. His practical solutions and strategic insights have helped countless veterinary practices thrive and achieve their goals.

      Mark’s influence extended beyond North America as he lectured at prestigious veterinary conferences worldwide. His notable speaking engagements included the Fetch dvm360 conference (formerly CVC), the North American Veterinary Conference, the World Small Animal Veterinary Conference, the Denmark Annual Congress, and the London Veterinary Forum. His dynamic presentations and profound knowledge made him a sought-after speaker and educator, impacting the lives of many veterinary professionals globally.

      The South African community is also mourning the loss of this remarkable veterinary doctor. Mark founded the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association and served as its president until 1993. His vision and leadership played a crucial role in shaping the organization and promoting excellence in veterinary practice management. Through his VMC School of Veterinary Practice Management, he trained more than 250 practice managers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their roles.
