      Tragic Crash Claims Life of Ronald E. Futrell in Grant Parish

      Dry Prong, LA – In a heartbreaking incident early Friday morning, Ronald E. Futrell, a 79-year-old resident of Dry Prong, lost his life in a fatal crash in Grant Parish. The accident occurred around 5 a.m. on U.S. Highway 167 at Forest Service Road 196, north of Dry Prong, as reported by the Louisiana State Police.

      According to the official news release, Ronald E. Futrell was driving his 2012 Nissan Frontier northbound on U.S. 167. Nathaniel J. Wicker Jr., a 28-year-old from Baker, was also traveling northbound in a 2019 Hino commercial vehicle. Unfortunately, Wicker failed to reduce his speed and collided with the rear of Futrell’s Nissan.

      Tragically, Futrell was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Nathaniel J. Wicker Jr. sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The passenger in Wicker’s Hino vehicle was fortunate to escape without any injuries.

      Authorities have taken a toxicology sample from Wicker, and the results are currently pending as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash. This incident marks the 29th fatal crash within Troop E in 2024, resulting in the 31st death.

      Ronald E. Futrell’s sudden and tragic passing has left the Dry Prong community in deep sorrow. Known for his warm personality and active involvement in local activities, Futrell’s absence will be profoundly felt by his family, friends, and neighbors.
