Lowell, MI – The Lowell community is mourning another heartbreaking loss following a tragic accident over the weekend. Eighteen-year-old Chase Wilder, son of the late Beau Wilder, died in a fatal vehicle accident on Saturday, August 3, 2024.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. when deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on Flat River Drive near Vergennes Avenue in Vergennes Township. Authorities found that Chase Wilder was driving a 1994 Chevrolet pickup when it veered off the road and collided with a tree. Tragically, Chase was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The double tragedy has left the Wilder family and the Lowell community reeling. Amanda Wilder, Chase’s mother, now faces the unbearable loss of both her husband and son within a few months.

First responders from Rockford Ambulance and the Lowell Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene, but there was nothing they could do to save Chase. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but it appears that no other vehicles were involved.

Chase Wilder was remembered by friends and family as a kind-hearted, spirited young man with a bright future ahead. His untimely death is a profound loss to those who knew him and the entire Lowell community.
