Cranston Woman Tragically Killed in Driveway Accident Identified as 77-Year-Old Lundy Braun

Cranston police have identified the woman who was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle on Friday evening as 77-year-old Lundy Braun, a resident of Cranston. The incident occurred at approximately 7:40 p.m. at 41 Strathmore Road, where emergency responders found Braun unresponsive at the end of a driveway. Despite the immediate efforts of rescue teams, including CPR and other critical life-saving procedures, Braun was later pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.

According to Cranston Police Chief Michael Winquist, the driver involved in the incident is a 25-year-old woman from Pawtucket, who was reversing her 2009 Toyota Highlander out of the driveway when the accident occurred. The driver, along with a passenger, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the police investigation. The driver informed police that she was unaware anyone was behind her vehicle until she felt the impact of the collision.

Chief Winquist confirmed that there was no evidence of alcohol or drug impairment on the part of the driver. The vehicle involved in the accident has been towed to the Cranston police department for further investigation as authorities continue to look into the cause of the incident.

Braun was well-known in her neighborhood as a regular walker, often seen near her residence. The accident has left both the local community and those involved deeply shaken. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Braun’s family during this difficult time, as well as with the driver and passenger, who were understandably very shaken,” Chief Winquist stated.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to gather all relevant details surrounding the accident.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance for both drivers and pedestrians, especially in residential areas. The Cranston police department is continuing its investigation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
