Tom Brown Jr. was born on January 29, 1950, and developed a deep connection with nature early in life through his mentor Rick, who was trained in traditional tracking by his grandfather, “Stalking Wolf,” of Lipan Apache heritage. After the deaths of Rick and Stalking Wolf when Brown was just seventeen, he dedicated ten years to working various jobs to support his passion for the outdoors.

His work gained national attention following a dramatic search for a criminal suspect in New Jersey, which led to a significant legal challenge involving a $5 million lawsuit due to false accusations. Despite these challenges, Brown continued to grow his tracking business and educate others on survival skills. Tom Brown Jr. was married three times. His first marriage was to Debbie Brown, with whom he had two children: Coty Tracker Brown and River Scout Brown. His second marriage was to Judy Duck Ford, with whom he had one son, Tom Brown III. His third marriage was to Celeste Brown.
