Mother Arrested After 22-Month-Old Child Dies in Hot Car at Corpus Christi School

The Corpus Christi Police Department has arrested Hilda Ann Adame following the tragic death of her 22-month-old child, who was left in a hot car. Adame faces charges of serious bodily injury to a child and child endangerment/abandonment with imminent bodily injury after the incident that occurred in the parking lot of Tom Browne Middle School.

Authorities responded to the scene around 1:29 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving reports of an unresponsive child in a vehicle. When officers arrived, they found a school nurse performing CPR on the child in a desperate attempt to save the baby’s life. Despite these efforts, the child could not be revived.

It is still unclear how long the baby had been left inside the vehicle before being discovered. Following the tragic discovery, Adame was taken into custody by the police. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

In response to the tragedy, Corpus Christi ISD Chief Communications Officer Leanne Libby issued a statement expressing sympathy and outlining the district’s support for those affected. “Corpus Christi ISD and school officials are aware of a young child being found in a hot car Tuesday at Tom Browne Middle School. We want to express our gratitude to those who swiftly responded upon learning of this crisis, including school staff as well as district police and local law enforcement,” the statement read.

The district has arranged for counseling services to be available for students and staff, with crisis counselors on-site to provide support. The statement also emphasized the need for compassion during this difficult time, urging the community to offer kindness to all those involved, especially the child’s family.
