Martavius Williams Identified as Victim in Fatal Shooting Near East Lake Park

Birmingham, AL – The Birmingham Police Department has identified 19-year-old Martavius Williams as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday night in front of East Lake Park.

Around 7:40 p.m., Birmingham East Precinct officers responded to a Shot Spotter alert in the 8200 Block of 1st Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with several vehicles wrecked in various locations. One vehicle had crashed through the park fence, indicating the severity of the incident.

Tragically, Martavius Williams was found inside the crashed vehicle with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue. Two other individuals, an adult male and female, were found near the vehicle, also suffering from gunshot wounds. They were immediately transported to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of the other wrecked vehicles were not found at the scene, suggesting they may have fled in the aftermath of the shooting. Additionally, a vehicle located nearby had wrecked while trying to escape the gunfire but was not involved in the shooting itself.

As of now, the Birmingham Police Department has not made any arrests in connection with the shooting. They are actively seeking information from the public to help solve this case.
