Jamario Calloway Arrested for the Murder of Shawndarin Porter in Lamar County Shooting
LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. – A 19-year-old Hattiesburg man has been arrested and charged with murder following a deadly shooting on Saturday night in Lamar County. Authorities identified the suspect as Jamario Deshaun Calloway, who turned himself in to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Shawndarin Terrell Porter, also of Hattiesburg, according to Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne. The shooting took place on McKenzie Circle, where deputies responded to reports of multiple gunshots late Saturday night.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Porter suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from emergency responders, Porter was pronounced dead shortly after. An initial investigation by the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office quickly identified Calloway as the primary suspect in the shooting.
The Sheriff’s Office issued warrants for Calloway’s arrest, leading him to surrender to authorities the following day. He has since been booked into the Lamar County Jail on a charge of murder and is currently awaiting his first appearance in Lamar County Justice Court.
