Tragedy Strikes New Hampshire Family: Father, Mother, and Child Found Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting

KITTERY, Maine — A tragic sequence of events unfolded early Thursday morning, leading to the deaths of a New Hampshire family, including a father, mother, and their 8-year-old son. Authorities in Maine and New Hampshire are now piecing together the details surrounding the heartbreaking incident that left three people dead at different locations.

The series of events began when 37-year-old Trent Weston of Troy, New Hampshire, was shot and killed by state troopers on the Piscataqua River Bridge. The Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed on Friday that Weston died from multiple gunshot wounds sustained during the officer-involved shooting.

Further investigation revealed that Weston’s 8-year-old son, Benson, had also been fatally shot. His body was discovered in the back of his father’s vehicle after the shooting. The Maine State Police have clarified that Benson’s death was not the result of gunfire from the troopers. According to Maine State Police Col. William Ross, the child’s death occurred before the confrontation with the police, and the use of deadly force by the officers was not responsible for the boy’s demise.

In a related discovery, New Hampshire State Police troopers were dispatched to an apartment at 359 Monadnock Street in Troy around 3 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from Trent Weston. During the call, Weston informed police that he had been involved in a violent altercation with his wife, Brittany Weston, and that she was dead. Upon arrival, authorities found the 37-year-old woman deceased, with the New Hampshire Associate Medical Examiner later confirming that she had been a victim of homicide, dying from multiple gunshot wounds.

The distance between the crime scenes in Troy, New Hampshire, and the Piscataqua River Bridge is approximately 95 miles, highlighting the span of the tragic events that unfolded over the course of several hours.

As law enforcement agencies from both Maine and New Hampshire continue to investigate, the community is left grappling with the senseless loss of life. The motive behind these tragic killings remains unclear, and authorities are working diligently to understand the full scope of the incident.

Maine State Police Col. Ross emphasized the importance of understanding that the child’s death was not connected to the police officers’ actions, urging the public to avoid speculation as the investigation continues.

This devastating incident has shocked the small towns of Troy and Kittery, leaving residents mourning the loss of an entire family. The investigation remains active, with authorities seeking to provide answers and justice for those affected by this tragedy.
