Dario Villard of Laurel shot Civil Jean Calixte dead before taking own life in Rockville

Montgomery County police have identified the individuals involved in an apparent murder-suicide shooting that occurred Thursday morning in Rockville. The victim, Civil Jean Calixte, 60, of Gaithersburg, and the suspect, Dario Villard, 53, of Laurel, were both found with gunshot wounds after a tragic series of events unfolded across the area.

The incident began when officers responded to reports of a shooting around 7:50 a.m. on the 14900 block of Southlawn Lane in Rockville. Upon arrival, they found Calixte suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews provided immediate medical aid, and Calixte was rushed to a local hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, according to police.

Witnesses reported that Villard, who was seen fleeing the scene in a gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, was the shooter. Around 8 a.m., a responding officer located the truck near the intersection of Avery and Norbeck roads. During a felony traffic stop, the officer heard a gunshot from inside the vehicle. Villard was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital by MCFRS crews, where he later died. A handgun was recovered from inside the truck, police said.

Authorities are investigating Calixte’s death as a homicide and Villard’s as a suicide. While the exact nature of their relationship has not been detailed, police spokesperson Shiera Goff confirmed that the two men were “known to each other.” Both bodies have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where autopsies were scheduled for Friday to determine the exact causes of death.

This incident is believed to be connected to a domestic-related shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in Laurel. In that earlier event, a victim was found with gunshot wounds on the 14200 block of Westmeath Drive and was reported to be in critical but stable condition as of Thursday morning. Laurel police had been seeking Villard on an attempted first-degree murder charge in connection with Wednesday’s shooting.

The connection between the Toyota Tacoma seen at the Rockville shooting and the earlier incident in Laurel was quickly made by detectives, linking the two violent episodes. Laurel detectives responded to the Rockville scene and confirmed Villard’s involvement in both shootings, highlighting a tragic chain of events that spanned multiple locations.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to uncover more details about the motivations behind these incidents and the relationship between Calixte and Villard. The community remains shaken by the violence, with police urging anyone with further information to come forward to help piece together the full narrative of this tragic murder-suicide.
