Police ID’d Seven Victims killed in Deadly Mississippi Bus Crash

Seven individuals have been identified following a tragic bus crash in Mississippi over the weekend. The accident occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 20 near Bovina when a commercial 2018 Volvo bus, traveling westbound, suffered a left front tire failure. The vehicle veered off course, careening onto an embankment and overturning onto its left side.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol released the names of the deceased on Monday. They are: Miguel Arriaga, 61; Victor Garcia, 32; Moises Garcia, 31; Kain Gutierrez, 8; Perla Gutierrez, 16; Elia Guzman, 63; and Angelica Palomino, 16, all of whom were from Mexico.

The bus, operated by Autobuses Regiomontanos, was en route from Atlanta to Dallas and was carrying 41 passengers along with two drivers when the incident occurred. Of the seven victims, six were pronounced dead at the scene, while one succumbed to their injuries at a hospital. In addition to those who lost their lives, 35 other passengers were transported to local hospitals by ambulance, though their conditions were not immediately available.

The company, Autobuses Regiomontanos, specializes in cross-border trips between the U.S. and Mexico, connecting passengers to over 100 destinations. The crash marks a devastating loss for the families of the victims and has left many others injured and shaken by the ordeal.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash, focusing on the cause of the tire failure and other potential factors that may have contributed to the accident. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also expected to join the investigation to determine if there were any additional safety concerns or regulatory violations.
