One Dead, Another Injured in Head-On Crash in Blount County

BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. — A head-on collision in Blount County claimed the life of one person and left another injured on Friday afternoon. Alabama State Troopers have identified the victim as 64-year-old Gregory S. Cantrell, a resident of Cleveland. The crash occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Alabama 160, about eight miles southwest of Hayden.

According to Senior Trooper Cody Farrar, Cantrell was driving a Toyota Avalon when it collided head-on with a Toyota Highlander driven by 65-year-old Annette W. Lake of Warrior. The impact of the collision was severe, and Cantrell was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers did not release details on what may have caused the vehicles to collide.

Annette Lake was injured in the crash and was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. The extent of her injuries has not been disclosed, and her current condition remains unknown. The crash forced the temporary closure of a portion of Alabama 160 as emergency responders worked to assist the victims and clear the wreckage. The road has since been reopened to traffic.
