21-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Oyster Bay Cove Crash

A 21-year-old Syosset man was tragically killed in a motorcycle crash on Sunday afternoon in Oyster Bay Cove. Nassau County Police identified the victim as Michael Rampanelli, who was riding a 2022 Honda motorcycle when the accident occurred around 3:40 p.m. on September 15, 2024.

Rampanelli was traveling southbound on Berry Hill Road, near the intersection of Northern Boulevard, when he entered the northbound lanes. According to the police, he collided head-on with a 2023 Kia Forte driven by a 62-year-old man. The impact of the collision was severe, and Rampanelli was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kia remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities. No other injuries were reported, and there is no indication that the driver of the Kia was at fault. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, including why Rampanelli’s motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic.

The Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad, along with the Traffic Safety Unit, is conducting the investigation. They have not yet determined if speed, weather conditions, or other factors played a role in the fatal collision. At this point, no charges have been filed.
