A northwest suburban Chicago community is mourning the death of 18-year-old Jesse Kendall, who was fatally shot while on his way to a concert at the United Center on Sunday night. Kendall, a senior at Elgin High School, was one of three individuals targeted during a violent robbery near the venue. The tragic incident has left the Elgin School District and the community in shock.

Kendall and two other teenagers were en route to a Lil Durk concert when they were shot in the 100 block of North Wolcott Avenue, just two blocks away from the United Center. The group was approached by unknown assailants who opened fire, according to police reports. Kendall was shot in the chest, while a 15-year-old boy was struck in the hand and grazed in the abdomen. A 19-year-old man was also hit in the rib area during the attack.

All three victims were rushed to Stroger Hospital of Cook County for treatment. Sadly, Kendall succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The 15-year-old boy is reported to be in good condition, while the 19-year-old remains in critical condition, according to CBS News Chicago.

The Elgin School District U-46 expressed its sorrow over Kendall’s death in a statement, offering condolences to his family and friends. The district also announced that grief counselors would be available to support students coping with the loss of their classmate. “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the student’s family, friends, and all those affected by this loss,” the district stated.

Jesse Kendall’s death has left his family devastated, and a GoFundMe page has been set up by a family friend to assist with funeral expenses. The community is rallying around his loved ones as they navigate this heartbreaking loss, with many expressing shock and sadness at the senseless violence that claimed his life.

As of late Monday, the Chicago Police Department had not made any arrests or released further details about the circumstances of the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and the community is hopeful that answers will soon emerge. In the meantime, Kendall’s family, friends, and classmates are left to grieve the loss of a promising young life.
