      Birmingham Man Found Shot to Death in South Birmingham Neighborhood Identified

      Birmingham, AL – The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the man found shot to death over the weekend in a south Birmingham neighborhood as 30-year-old Jordan Immanuel Davis. The Birmingham resident was discovered early Saturday morning, October 19, 2024, in the 100 block of 24th Avenue South, near Green Springs Highway.

      Authorities responded to a call around 6:30 a.m. about a man lying unresponsive in the street. Birmingham police arrived on the scene, and Davis was pronounced dead by medics at 6:26 a.m. According to Sgt. Bryan Shelton of the Birmingham Police Department, Davis had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

      Nearby residents reported hearing a disturbance before gunshots rang out, but no further details have emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting. “Truly any homicide is a tragedy, and our hearts go out to the family,” said Shelton. “Our investigators will work to try to bring some closure to the family.”

      As of now, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with Davis’s death. Police are actively investigating the case and are urging anyone with information to come forward.       Jordan Davis’s death adds to the alarming number of homicides in Birmingham this year, bringing the city’s total to 131. Of these cases, nine have been ruled justifiable, while two involved victims who were injured in previous years but succumbed to their injuries in 2024. Across Jefferson County, there have been 165 homicides so far this year.

      The surge in violence has left the community shaken, with police departments working tirelessly to address the rising crime. The Birmingham Police Department is encouraging residents to remain vigilant and provide any information that could help bring the perpetrator to justice.
