17-year-old Tyler Parks shot to death in West Pullman

Chicago, IL – A 17-year-old boy, Tyler Parks, was tragically shot and killed on Saturday evening, November 9, in the West Pullman neighborhood on Chicago’s Far South Side. The Chicago Police Department is actively investigating the case, with detectives seeking any information that could help bring justice for the young victim and his grieving family.

Police received a call around 7 p.m. reporting an unconscious person near 125th Street and State Street. When officers arrived, they found Tyler lying in the middle of the street, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed Tyler’s identity, and initial reports suggest he may have been shot somewhere else, with his body left in the street.

Detectives found no shell casings at the scene, indicating the shooting likely occurred elsewhere. Witnesses reported seeing a silver SUV leaving the area shortly before police arrived, but the details of the vehicle’s involvement remain unclear. Investigators are working to determine if this SUV was connected to the shooting and, if so, who may have been involved.

The Chicago Police Department’s Area Two detectives are spearheading the investigation but currently have no suspects in custody. Police have asked for the public’s assistance, urging anyone with information to contact them. People can report tips anonymously at CPDTIP.COM or reach the Chicago Police Department’s 5th (Calumet) District directly at (312) 747-8210.

This case underscores the pressing issue of youth violence in Chicago, particularly on the city’s South Side, where gun violence continues to devastate families and communities. Tyler’s death is a painful reminder of the urgent need for solutions to protect young lives from the cycle of violence. Local leaders are advocating for more resources, safety programs, and youth engagement to address these concerns.

As the community mourns Tyler’s passing, police and community members hope that someone with knowledge of the incident will come forward. In the meantime, support networks are rallying to help his family navigate this tragedy, while law enforcement remains committed to finding justice for Tyler and holding those responsible accountable.
