Michael Wilkerson Charged with capital murder for killing Darrell King in Houston liquor store
Houston police have charged a suspect in the deadly shooting of a woman at a business on the 14300 block of South Post Oak Road. The shooting, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, claimed the life of 29-year-old Darrell Lynn Tikisha King, an employee at the establishment.
The suspect, 39-year-old Michael Dewayne Wilkerson, now faces charges of capital murder and tampering with physical evidence in the 182nd State District Court. Authorities have released a booking photo of Wilkerson, who was taken into custody on Wednesday, November 13, by officers from the Houston Police Department’s (HPD) Southwest Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team. Wilkerson, who had previously been in a relationship with King, was apprehended without incident and subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants R. Watson and M. Burrow reported that officers initially responded to a shooting call at the business. Upon arrival, officers found King unresponsive, having sustained gunshot wounds. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department pronounced her dead at the scene. Investigators quickly identified Wilkerson as the primary suspect after a preliminary investigation pointed to the prior relationship between him and King.
As the investigation progressed, law enforcement officers gathered evidence linking Wilkerson to the crime, leading to his arrest. Details of the investigation reveal that the nature of the shooting and the relationship between the suspect and victim played a role in determining the charges against Wilkerson.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to gather further evidence related to the shooting. HPD has not yet released additional details about the events leading up to the incident or a potential motive behind the shooting. In cases involving capital murder charges, Texas law permits severe penalties, which could include life imprisonment or the death penalty, depending on the outcomes of judicial proceedings.
This tragic event has left many in the local community grieving. Authorities are encouraging anyone with further information to contact the Houston Police Department to aid in the ongoing investigation.
