Massachusetts Woman Killed in Tragic I-84 Collision in Connecticut

Willington, CT — A devastating accident on Interstate 84 in Willington on Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a Massachusetts woman. The collision occurred around 3:15 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near Exit 71, involving a car and a UPS tractor-trailer, state police reported.

According to the crash report, a 2015 Hyundai Elantra was traveling behind the tractor-trailer in the right lane. As the Hyundai attempted to merge into the center lane, it struck the rear driver’s side of the truck, causing the car to spin out and come to a stop in the center lane. The passenger in the Hyundai, identified as 39-year-old Gennese Alicea of Southbridge, Massachusetts, tragically lost her life in the collision. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Both drivers—the 33-year-old man from Holland, Massachusetts, operating the Hyundai, and the 63-year-old man from Worcester, Massachusetts, driving the UPS truck—escaped serious injuries, according to authorities.
