Tragic Accident: Bernardo Miranda struck dead by Metrolink Train in Northridge

Northridge, CA – Bernardo Miranda, 37, tragically lost his life after being struck by a Metrolink train in an unauthorized area between Chatsworth and Northridge stations early Monday morning. The incident occurred just before 5:30 a.m. on Bahama Street, according to authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department and Metrolink spokesperson Scott Johnson.

Bernardo Miranda, identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as homeless, was pronounced dead at the scene. The southbound Ventura County Line train, designated as train 100 from Moorpark to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, was involved in the accident.

Metrolink personnel assisted approximately 60 passengers off the train following the incident, arranging alternate transportation through ride-sharing services. Fortunately, no passengers reported injuries during the incident.

The collision temporarily disrupted rail services on both the Metrolink’s VC Line and Pacific Surfliner routes. However, by 9:39 a.m., all services were fully restored, confirmed Johnson.

In response to the tragic event, Johnson issued a reminder to the public regarding rail safety. “We remind people to stay off of railroad tracks,” Johnson emphasized. “Don’t use the right-of-way as a shortcut — for your safety and for everyone’s safety.”
