Tragic Mass Shooting in Chicago’s Greater Grand Crossing Leaves Two Women Dead and Three Children Critically Injured

CHICAGO, IL – A horrific mass shooting in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood early Thursday morning has claimed the lives of two women and left three young boys critically injured, according to Chicago police.

Deputy Chief Don Jerome reported that officers responded to calls of gunfire around 6:15 a.m. in the 7100 block of South Woodlawn Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, they found five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims included two women, identified by their families as 24-year-old Capri Edwards and 42-year-old Nakeeshia Strong, and three boys aged 5, 7, and 8.

Immediate first aid was administered by the responding officers. Despite their efforts, Nakeeshia Strong was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. Capri Edwards was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center but sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.

The three young boys, all critically injured, were rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Their current condition is critical as medical teams work tirelessly to save their lives.
