      Tragic Accident Claims Life of Elkton Woman

      Elkton, MD – Carrie Loree Knox, a 45-year-old resident of Elkton, Cecil County, tragically lost her life on Monday in a single-vehicle accident. According to the Maryland State Police (MSP), Knox’s vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a shallow creek near Elkton.

      The fatal accident occurred on Appleton Road, close to the Tri-State Christian Academy. MSP troopers from the North East Barrack responded to the scene around 8:15 a.m. after receiving a report of a crash. Upon arrival, they found Knox inside her overturned 2005 Ford Escape in the creek.

      Preliminary investigations indicate that Knox was driving southbound on Appleton Road, just northeast of Riverside Drive, when she suddenly lost control of her SUV. The vehicle crossed over the northbound lane, traveled more than 260 feet off the road, entered a densely wooded area, and ultimately came to rest in the creek. Knox was declared dead at the scene.

      Authorities are still trying to determine the exact time of the crash. It is unclear when Knox’s vehicle left the road and ended up in the creek. Her body has been sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy to further investigate the cause of death.

      First responders, including MSP troopers, paramedics, and firefighters, were present at the crash site in a field adjacent to the woods that obscure the creek. By around 9 a.m., two tow trucks had arrived to remove the vehicle from the creek and transport it away. MSP Crash Team investigators worked diligently at the scene, collecting information and trying to piece together the events that led to the crash.

      The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident is ongoing. Authorities are seeking to understand what caused Knox to lose control of her vehicle.
