      Christian Cousins

Stoughton Public Schools has been struck by tragedy as it confirms two of its students were involved in a double shooting in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood on Friday, resulting in one fatality and another injury.

According to a statement from the school department, one of the students, identified as Christian Cousins, a rising senior and member of the SHS Class of 2025, lost his life in the shooting incident. The other student, a female, sustained a gunshot wound but is expected to recover. The school has opted not to release her identity at this time.

“The loss of a student is always heartbreaking, especially under such circumstances,” expressed the school department. “Our deepest condolences go to Christian’s family, loved ones, and teachers, as well as the entire Stoughton High community. We are also thinking of the other injured student and their support system.”

The incident occurred during a surge of violence in Boston on July 5th, which saw a total of four deadly shootings across the city. Christian Cousins was among the victims who tragically lost their lives, while five others, including the injured Stoughton High student, sustained injuries.

Boston Police Superintendent Felipe Colon addressed the media during a press conference, describing the Mattapan shooting as a targeted incident rather than a random act of violence. He noted that the police had already been actively monitoring specific areas to prevent potential violence over the July 4th weekend.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shootings, leaving the community and law enforcement in search of answers and justice.

The Stoughton Public Schools community is rallying around the families and friends affected by this senseless act of violence. Support services and counseling are being offered to students and staff members as they mourn the loss of Christian Cousins and support the recovery of the injured student.

Authorities continue to urge anyone with information related to the shootings to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in addressing and preventing such tragic incidents in the future.
