Milwaukee Man Killed in Police Chase Crash Identified as Clarence Thomas Bibbins
Milwaukee, WI – The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified 60-year-old Clarence Thomas Bibbins as the victim of a fatal collision during a police chase on Tuesday evening. Bibbins, a Milwaukee resident, was struck by a car fleeing police at a high speed and tragically died at the scene.
According to the medical examiner’s report, the crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. at an intersection on North 20th Street and West Galena Street. Bibbins was traveling southbound, crossing through the intersection, when a car involved in the chase struck his vehicle from the side. The fleeing vehicle, reportedly stolen during an armed robbery, was moving at an estimated 80 mph when it collided with Bibbins’ Pontiac Torrent.
The incident began just three blocks away when Milwaukee police attempted to pull over the stolen car near North 17th Street and West Galena Street. The suspect’s vehicle continued westward, leading to the devastating crash moments later. Authorities reported that the impact was severe, instantly claiming Bibbins’ life.
Police arrested the driver, an 18-year-old male, and his 14-year-old passenger, who were both seriously injured in the collision. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and charges related to the incident are expected. Law enforcement noted that the stolen vehicle was initially taken during an armed robbery, leading to the high-speed pursuit.
This tragic accident has raised concerns over traffic fatalities in Milwaukee, which have already claimed 59 lives in 2024. Last year, traffic fatalities reached 76, and authorities are working to reduce the number through increased safety measures and enforcement. The city has seen a troubling rise in reckless driving and high-speed chases involving stolen vehicles.
As the Milwaukee community mourns Bibbins’ loss, officials are encouraging drivers to exercise caution and urging those with information on recent armed robberies or stolen vehicles to contact the Milwaukee Police Department. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, and the public is reminded to prioritize safety as police pursue ongoing efforts to combat dangerous driving and prevent future tragedies.
