The collision occurred at approximately 10:50 a.m., involving a Toyota Rav 4, a Volkswagen Taos SE, and Kaufman’s vehicle.

According to troopers, the incident began when the driver of a Toyota Rav 4 was traveling eastbound on Main Street. Simultaneously, Kaufman was driving south on Route 254, while another driver in a Volkswagen Taos SE was heading north on the same route. The driver of the Rav 4 attempted to navigate the intersection of Main Street and Route 254, leading to a collision with Kaufman’s vehicle in the southbound lane of Route 254.

The force of the impact caused Kaufman’s vehicle to veer into the northbound lane, where it was struck head-on by the Volkswagen Taos SE. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene. Kaufman was transported to Waterbury Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.
