      Two Elk River Teens Identified in Fatal Big Lake Crash on Highway 25

      Authorities have confirmed the identities of the two 17-year-old boys from Elk River who tragically lost their lives in a crash in Big Lake on Saturday morning. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Donavan Paul Gobel and Anthony Scott Krider were killed in the single-vehicle crash on Highway 25, which occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m.

      Another 17-year-old from Elk River, Charles Gabrelcik, sustained life-threatening injuries in the same incident. The state patrol reports that the three teenagers were traveling in a BMW when an officer from the Big Lake Police Department observed the vehicle speeding northbound on Highway 25.

      The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop by turning their vehicle around. However, shortly thereafter, they discovered that the BMW had crashed and rolled over. Tragically, Gobel and Krider were pronounced dead at the scene. Gabrelcik was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with critical injuries.

      At this time, the state patrol has not determined whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to this tragic incident.
