Freddy James Passes Away in Tragic Car Accident in Mueller Ranges

MUELLER RANGES, AUSTRALIA – The community is mourning the untimely death of Freddy James, a 34-year-old graduate of the University of Western Australia, who tragically lost his life in a car accident on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. The accident occurred in the Mueller Ranges, a remote area located halfway between Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek, on the Great Northern Highway.

According to reports from law enforcement agencies, the accident happened at approximately 6:10 a.m. Freddy James was driving a dark-colored Toyota Landcruiser with a trailer, traveling westbound on the Great Northern Highway. Tragically, the vehicle collided with cattle that had wandered onto the road, leading to a catastrophic crash. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Freddy James was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Major Crash Investigation Section officers were promptly dispatched to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. As a result of the crash and subsequent investigation, a portion of the Great Northern Highway was temporarily closed to traffic. This closure allowed the officers to gather evidence and ensure that the scene was thoroughly examined. The road has since been reopened, but the investigation is still ongoing to determine any additional factors that may have contributed to the accident.
