Motorcyclist Killed in Collision on Louisiana Highway 311

HOUMA, LA – A tragic accident on Wednesday evening claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Louisiana Highway 311. Louisiana State Police, Troop C, began investigating the fatal collision shortly before 5 p.m. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Garret Ellisor from Canyon Lake, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet.

The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred when Roy Miller, Jr., a resident of Houma, was driving his 2024 BMW X6 eastbound on Sugar Highland Boulevard, approaching the intersection with LA Hwy 311. At the same time, Ellisor was traveling southbound on his 2021 Yamaha motorcycle along the highway. For reasons still under investigation, Miller failed to yield to the motorcycle as he entered LA Hwy 311, leading to a collision with Ellisor.

Ellisor suffered fatal injuries as a result of the impact. Miller, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time, did not sustain any injuries in the crash. According to authorities, Miller showed no signs of impairment and voluntarily provided a breath sample, which confirmed that he had no alcohol in his system. Standard toxicology samples have been collected from Ellisor for further analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of vigilance at intersections, particularly when yielding to oncoming traffic. Motorcyclists, who are often less visible to drivers, face increased risks on the road, and accidents like these underscore the need for heightened awareness from all motorists.

Local authorities and Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the accident. The cause of Miller’s failure to yield remains unclear, and investigators are working to determine if other factors, such as distracted driving, may have played a role.

The fatal accident has left the community in shock, as residents reflect on the importance of road safety and the shared responsibility of all drivers to prevent such tragedies. Friends and family of Garret Ellisor are mourning his loss, remembering him as a passionate motorcyclist who loved the freedom of the open road.

As the investigation progresses, authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Louisiana State Police remind drivers to exercise caution, especially at intersections, and to always be mindful of motorcyclists who share the road. The focus now is on ensuring that all safety protocols are followed to prevent similar accidents in the future.
