64-Year-Old Ioannis Kyriakopoulos killed in Fatal Scarborough Shooting

TORONTO — A 64-year-old Toronto man, Ioannis Kyriakopoulos, has been identified as the victim in a fatal shooting that took place late Friday night outside a Scarborough home. Toronto police responded to multiple calls reporting gunshots in the area of Danforth and Warden Avenues shortly before 11:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Kyriakopoulos with gunshot wounds and attempted life-saving measures. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

At a press conference held outside of 41 Division on Saturday afternoon, Detective Sergeant Aaron Akeson shared details about the case, describing Kyriakopoulos as a father and husband, and acknowledged the profound loss felt by his loved ones. “There are a lot of people close to him who are grieving,” Akeson said, underscoring the personal impact of this tragic event.

According to Akeson, police believe the shooting was targeted. Investigators have determined that two suspects approached Kyriakopoulos on foot before fleeing the scene in a dark-colored SUV driven by a third individual. While the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, Akeson confirmed that Kyriakopoulos was known to police prior to the incident, though he did not provide further details on the nature of that connection.

As the investigation continues, forensic teams are actively collecting evidence from the scene, and officers are reviewing video surveillance footage from the area. Detective Sergeant Akeson urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or heard anything unusual to come forward, stressing the importance of community involvement in solving the case. “Your information, no matter how small, may be very important to our investigation, so I encourage you to come forward and speak to us,” he emphasized.

Toronto police are calling on the public for assistance in identifying the suspects and piecing together the events leading up to the shooting. Investigators are particularly interested in any tips or surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses that might help shed light on the suspects’ movements before and after the shooting.
