A tragic multi-vehicle crash on a Pennsylvania highway claimed the life of 27-year-old James Stokes of Cresco early Thursday morning. The collision occurred around 2:40 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Exit 80 (Route 743/Grantville/Hershey) in East Hanover Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
The crash began when a vehicle traveling in the right lane struck the rear of another, causing the first vehicle to jackknife. A third vehicle then collided with the second, pushing the third vehicle into the left lane. It was then struck by a fourth vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. Stokes, a front-seat passenger in the third vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of the second and third vehicles were transported to Hershey Medical Center for evaluation. Multiple emergency response teams, including Troop L CARS Unit, Life Lion EMS, and the Lebanon County Coroner’s Office, worked together to manage the accident site.
