Jocelyn Megee, a resident of Fairfield, tragically lost her life in a fatal car crash on Route 16 near Waynesboro Pike on Monday evening. The accident occurred at approximately 7:08 p.m., just a short distance from her home. Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Gettysburg confirmed the details of the incident, which left the community in shock and mourning.

According to Trooper Cameron Norris of PSP Gettysburg, Megee was driving westbound in her 2014 Jeep Cherokee when she lost control of the vehicle due to heavy rain. The slippery road conditions caused the Jeep to veer off course, strike an embankment, and flip onto its driver’s side. The vehicle then slid into the opposite lane of traffic, where it was struck head-on by a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer traveling eastbound. The impact was devastating, and Megee was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 44-year-old man from Hagerstown, Maryland, was not injured in the crash. Both Megee and the trucker were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, which likely prevented further injuries. Following the accident, the vehicles were transported to a lot for a thorough inspection as part of the ongoing investigation. The PSP has not released additional details about the condition of the vehicles or any potential contributing factors beyond the weather.

As a result of the fatal crash, Route 16 was closed in both directions near the Adams/Franklin County line. The closure lasted several hours, with the roadway reopening just after 11 p.m. The Adams County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to handle the tragic aftermath, and Megee’s next of kin were promptly notified of her passing. The incident has left a profound impact on the local community, which is already expressing its grief and support for her family.

Jocelyn Megee was well-known in her community for her deep love of animals, particularly horses. Her social media accounts reflected her passion for caring for and riding horses, as well as her experience raising pigs during the pandemic. Recently, she had pursued dog grooming, as indicated by her final Facebook post, showcasing her dedication to animal care and welfare.

The Fairfield community has been quick to respond to the news of her death, with friends and neighbors sharing their memories and condolences online. Jocelyn’s love for animals and her kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. As the community grieves, they also reflect on the impact she had on those around her, remembering her as a compassionate and dedicated individual.
