Fatal Head-On Collision in Northeast Kansas Leaves One Dead, Another Seriously Injured
Wamego, KS – A tragic accident occurred on K-99 south of Wamego on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the death of a local resident and serious injuries to another driver. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a Chevy Silverado, driven by a 20-year-old man from Manhattan, Kansas, veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Honda CR-V around 1:30 p.m.
The driver of the Honda, identified as 69-year-old John Long of Wamego, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, Long later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Chevy Silverado, who has not yet been named, also suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. His current condition remains unknown.
Authorities are still investigating what might have caused the Chevy Silverado to cross the center line. Initial reports do not suggest any immediate causes, and officials have stated that a thorough investigation is underway to determine any contributing factors, including driver distraction or road conditions.
