Father Shot dead While Trying to Break Up Fight in Florida City, Suspect Arrested

FLORIDA CITY, Fla. — A man was arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a father who was attempting to stop a fight involving his daughter, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department. The shooting occurred on Tuesday around 5:31 p.m. in the area of NW 14th Street and 1st Court.

The victim, 47-year-old Johnny Lewis Stevenson Jr., went to the scene to intervene in a fistfight between his daughter and several other girls. According to the arrest report, Stevenson was trying to defuse the situation when 22-year-old Kentarian Cross pulled out a firearm and shot him.

Witnesses say the fight initially started on a bus before spilling onto the street, where Stevenson attempted to break it up. As he tried to mediate the situation, Cross allegedly drew his weapon and fired a shot that struck Stevenson in the stomach.
