Stillwater Woman, Kerrie Jones Killed in Fiery Wrong-Way Crash on I-35

LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. – A fatal crash early Saturday morning claimed the life of 41-year-old Kerrie Jones, a Stillwater resident, on Interstate 35 near the State Highway 33 bridge in Logan County. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported that the accident occurred at approximately 2:53 a.m., leaving the community shaken.

According to authorities, Jones was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu northbound in the southbound lanes of I-35. Her vehicle veered off the highway, passed between concrete barriers near the bridge, and became airborne before crashing onto State Highway 33 below. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire, creating a grim scene for first responders.

Emergency crews from Guthrie EMS pronounced Jones dead at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. The Guthrie Fire Department worked tirelessly to extricate her from the wreckage, a process that took around 10 minutes due to the car’s condition. Her body was later transported to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office by Alpha & Omega Mortuary Service.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. OHP is examining potential contributing factors, such as medical issues, impairment, or environmental conditions, that may have caused Jones to drive the wrong way. Investigators continue to gather evidence to understand the events leading up to the fatal collision.

The crash temporarily disrupted traffic in the area, as emergency responders worked to manage the aftermath. Motorists traveling in the vicinity experienced delays while crews secured the scene and cleared debris from the roadway. The incident highlights the challenges emergency personnel face in responding to severe accidents.

This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of wrong-way driving, particularly during late-night or early-morning hours when visibility is reduced, and fatigue can impair judgment. Authorities urge drivers to remain alert, exercise caution, and report any vehicles observed traveling the wrong way to prevent similar accidents. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of Kerrie Jones, whose life was tragically cut short.
