WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The South Williamsport community is mourning the loss of Kevin Eck, a retired English teacher from the South Williamsport Area School District. Kevin Eck passed away this week at his home in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, following a brief illness. Eck, a graduate of Northeastern University, had recently been working as a substitute teacher for the district.

Kevin Eck retired from his position at South Williamsport Area School District in June 2021, having dedicated many years to educating and inspiring students. He was known for his passion for literature and his commitment to helping young people apply the lessons of literature to their own lives and communicate effectively. “Teaching young people how to apply the lessons of literature to their lives and be able to communicate effectively with their fellow human beings was Kevin’s best thing to do,” said a family friend.

Eck was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nancy B. Eck, who passed away at their home on November 13, 2013. Nancy was born on December 29, 1959, in Miami, Florida, to Margaret (Schmitt) and James Williams. Her early life was marked by frequent relocations due to her family’s military background, living on Army posts across the United States and Europe. She graduated from Tucker High School in Tucker, Georgia, in 1977 and moved to Massachusetts the same year.

Nancy worked as a bank teller in Massachusetts and later at a trucking firm for four years. After moving to DuBoistown in June 2004, she began working at Service 1st Credit Union in February 2005. Nancy had a love for music and enjoyed attending concerts with friends. She was also an animal lover and regular contributor to animal-related causes, cherishing her pets, Molly the dog and Jasper the cat. In addition, she enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family.

Kevin and Nancy Eck moved to DuBoistown in June 2004 and quickly became cherished members of the community. Their dedication to their respective professions and their community involvement left a lasting impact on those who knew them.

The passing of Kevin Eck marks the end of an era for many in the South Williamsport community who remember him as a dedicated teacher and a kind, thoughtful individual. As friends and family mourn his loss, they also celebrate the legacy of a man who touched countless lives through his work in education. Funeral arrangements and an obituary will be released by the family in the coming days.

The community extends its heartfelt condolences to the Eck family during this difficult time, remembering both Kevin and Nancy for their contributions and the joy they brought to the lives of others.
