Kyle Dubois, who was at the center of a 2010 electrical shock incident at Dover High School, has tragically passed away. Dubois, a father of two and partner to Alicia Carabelas, was found dead on Wednesday morning, July 24, 2024. His unexpected passing has left his family and community in mourning.

According to reports, Kyle Dubois died following an undisclosed incident on Wednesday. In response, his family has created a GoFundMe account to help raise funds for his funeral and to support his two sons. A message on the fundraising page reads: “We lost a good man and best friend Kyle DuBois on Wednesday morning. It’s so hard losing such a great piece of our family’s puzzle. He will be missed. Any help for my sister and his family would be appreciated. Thank you.”

Dubois first gained public attention as a junior at Dover High School, when he was shocked by electricity in his trades class on March 10, 2010. The incident left him unconscious and prompted a thorough investigation to determine the cause. Electricians were called back to the school to inspect the circuits in the electric trades class where the incident occurred. Despite ongoing inquiries, the results of the investigation have not yet been released.

During the incident, Dubois was reportedly using alligator clips when he received the shock that caused his heart to stop. Thomas Kelley, his teacher, along with two other individuals, immediately began CPR. Firefighters arrived shortly after and used an automated external defibrillator to restart his heart. Initially transported to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, Dubois was later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for further treatment.

Dr. Peter Dourdoufis of Atlantic Cardiology Associates explained the potential severity of electrical shocks, noting that alternating currents, which are commonly found in homes and businesses, can cause significant harm, including cardiac fibrillation and burns. Dubois’s youth and the prompt medical attention he received were seen as advantageous factors in his initial recovery.

The 2010 incident led to an investigation revealing that Dubois had voluntarily shocked himself as part of a dare involving a Mountain Dew soda. Several students claimed that Kelley had offered Dubois the soda in exchange for strapping two charged alligator clips to his chest, a claim Kelley has denied. Despite the lack of criminal charges, the incident resulted in Kelley being placed on paid leave.

Kyle Dubois’s passing has reignited memories of the incident and brought fresh sorrow to his loved ones. His family has not yet released his obituary and funeral arrangements. The community remembers Dubois not only for the tragic events of his youth but also as a beloved partner, father, and friend.
