      Mark Sousa Tragically Killed in Waterbury Car Accident Just Days Before 45th Birthday

      Waterbury, CT – The Waterbury community is in mourning following the tragic death of Mark Sousa, a 44-year-old father who was killed in a car accident on Friday, July 19, 2024. The fatal crash occurred just days before what would have been Sousa’s 45th birthday, casting a shadow over the celebrations meant to honor his life.

      The accident took place early in the morning on Route 8, a major road in Waterbury. Sousa was driving when his vehicle was involved in a collision. Despite the immediate response from emergency services, Sousa was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances leading to the accident are still under investigation, but early reports indicate that the collision may have been caused by another vehicle.

      Mark Sousa, known for his dedication as a father and his involvement in the local community, worked tirelessly for Amandio Sousa Paving before joining the Local 611 Union and working with Bancker Construction. His devotion to his daughters, Caitlin and Cameron, and his active participation in his parish, Our Lady of Fatima Church, and the Waterbury Portuguese Sports Club highlighted his deep commitment to those he cared about.

      The community has expressed profound grief at his untimely passing. In a touching tribute, a parishioner reflected on the loss, saying, “This unfathomable tragic passing has affected our whole community. To Amandio, Maria Olimpia Sousa, Daniel Sousa, Michael, Mark’s daughters, and the rest of the family and friends, my most heartfelt condolences and prayers.” The outpouring of support emphasizes the impact Mark had on those around him and the depth of the community’s sorrow.

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, with burial following at All Saints Cemetery. Friends and family will have the opportunity to pay their respects during the calling hours from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, prior to the service.

      Mark leaves behind his parents, Amandio and Maria Olimpia Sousa, his daughters Caitlin and Cameron, his brothers Michael and Daniel, and many other relatives and friends. The tragic accident has left a significant void in the lives of his loved ones and the Waterbury community, who will remember Mark for his kindness, dedication, and the positive influence he had on those around him.
