Teacher & Husband Killed in Sarpy County Domestic Violence Incident, Investigation Underway

A domestic violence incident early Monday morning has led to the tragic deaths of Rebecca Geiger, a 45-year-old teacher at Westside High School, and her husband, Rory Geiger, 44. The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. in a neighborhood on the southwest edge of the Omaha metro area, specifically near South 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway, according to local authorities.

Omaha police responded after receiving a distressing 911 call, reportedly made by the couple’s daughter. She informed dispatchers that her father had shot her mother and was now threatening her with the weapon. Investigators revealed that officers had visited the Geiger home about a month prior due to another domestic incident but were warned by the couple not to return.

When deputies arrived at the scene Monday morning, they encountered immediate gunfire from inside the home, with shots reportedly fired through a window. The deputies returned fire before entering the residence, where they located one of the victims. Emergency responders on-site attempted life-saving measures; however, the individual was pronounced dead shortly after.

Rebecca Geiger, who worked as a teacher at Westside High School, was remembered by her school community for her warmth and dedication. The school district released a statement honoring her commitment to her students and her efforts to foster an inclusive environment. “Rebecca was a caring, impactful presence in our school community, and her absence will be deeply felt,” the district remarked.

In accordance with standard protocol, the five deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is underway. Authorities are analyzing body camera footage from the deputies as well as surveillance from cameras located within and around the home to piece together the events that led to the shooting.

No deputies were injured during the incident. The case continues to be investigated, shedding light on the complex and often dangerous nature of domestic violence situations and their tragic outcomes.
