      Reggie Coverson Killed in Self-Defense Incident in Tuscaloosa County

      Tuscaloosa County, AL – The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about a shooting in the 2000 block of Stardust Drive early Saturday morning. Deputies arrived at the scene at approximately 3:14 a.m. and discovered two adult males with gunshot wounds.

      Reggie Coverson, a 51-year-old resident of Tuscaloosa, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 23-year-old man, also from Tuscaloosa, was found with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance for medical treatment. He is currently in stable condition.

      According to Capt. Marty Sellers of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, a 36-year-old man at the scene informed investigators that he had shot Coverson. The suspect was taken to the Violent Crimes Unit for questioning. The incident reportedly stemmed from a verbal argument that escalated into violence.

      Multiple witnesses were interviewed as part of the investigation. After gathering statements and evidence, the information was presented to the District Attorney’s Office. It was determined that Reggie Coverson appeared to be the aggressor in the altercation. According to Capt. Sellers, Coverson had shot the 23-year-old victim before being shot by the 36-year-old man in what was determined to be an act of self-defense.

      No charges have been filed at this time. The case will be presented to the Tuscaloosa County Grand Jury for further review. The 23-year-old victim remains in stable condition as he continues to receive treatment for his injuries.

      The Tuscaloosa County community is grappling with the incident, which has left one man dead and another recovering from gunshot wounds. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, ensuring that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
