Tragic Collision on US 425 Claims Life of Terencio Ashton

On Monday, July 8, 2024, just before 10:00 a.m., a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on US 425 near LA 830-6 (McCreight Street). The incident tragically claimed the life of 32-year-old Terencio Ashton from Bastrop. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F initiated an investigation into the crash, which involved a 2007 Ford F150 and a 2018 Kenworth Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).

Initial findings indicate that the 2007 Ford F150, driven by 29-year-old Branderius Brooks, was traveling south on US 425. Simultaneously, the Kenworth CMV was heading north on the same route. For reasons that are still under investigation, Brooks veered into the northbound lane of US 425, resulting in a head-on collision with the CMV. The impact was devastating, leading to the immediate death of Ashton, who was in the front seat of the Ford.

Ashton, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and passed away at the scene. Brooks, also restrained by a seatbelt, was transported to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. The driver and front seat passenger of the CMV were both wearing seatbelts and emerged unharmed from the collision. Routine toxicology samples were gathered from all drivers and will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
