Two Killed, Four Injured in West Babylon Car Crash

A devastating car accident in West Babylon early Saturday morning left two people dead and four others seriously injured, according to Suffolk County police. The collision occurred around 1 AM at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Great East Neck Road. The crash involved two vehicles—a 2017 Kia sedan and a 2025 Kia Seltos.

The tragic accident happened when 33-year-old Michael Desmond, a resident of Lindenhurst, was driving his Kia sedan eastbound on Railroad Avenue. Police reported that Desmond failed to stop at a red light at the intersection and collided with the southbound Kia Seltos. The impact of the crash was severe, leading to fatalities and serious injuries for those involved.

Desmond was pronounced dead at the scene. In addition, 18-year-old Riley Goot, a passenger in the Kia Seltos from Babylon, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was also pronounced dead. Goot’s death, along with Desmond’s, has sent shockwaves through the community as families and friends mourn the loss of their loved ones.

The Kia Seltos was driven by 17-year-old Bella Trezza, also from Babylon. She, along with her passengers—18-year-olds Austin Trezza and Jack Murphy—were transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital with serious injuries. Another passenger, 16-year-old Anthony Pagliuca from West Babylon, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of his injuries. All four are in serious condition, and their families are hoping for their full recovery.

In response to the tragic crash, Suffolk County police impounded both vehicles to conduct safety checks as part of the investigation. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether any additional factors contributed to the collision.
