A devastating mass shooting occurred at Maplewood Park on Sunday, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to at least six others. The Rochester Police Department (RPD) responded to reports of gunfire and a large gathering at approximately 6:20 p.m. Upon their arrival, officers encountered a chaotic scene with several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds and a sizable crowd fleeing the area.

The victim who tragically lost their life has been identified as 20-year-old Tyasia Manning. Manning’s death marks a profound loss for the community, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The severity of the incident was highlighted by the fact that one other individual is in life-threatening condition, while five others have been hospitalized with injuries that, though serious, are considered relatively minor.

Emergency response to the shooting was extensive, involving multiple police agencies. In addition to the Rochester Police Department, the Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriffs, and New York State Police were all on the scene. Throughout the night, some victims were transported to medical facilities by private vehicles, while others were taken by ambulance. This diverse response underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgency with which emergency services addressed the crisis.

The Rochester Police Department has confirmed that a party was taking place at Maplewood Park when the shooting occurred. Authorities are actively seeking any video footage of the incident to aid in their investigation. They are requesting that such footage be sent directly to the police through Major Crimes or Crime Stoppers, rather than being posted on social media platforms, to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

At this time, the police have not identified any suspects and are still working to piece together the details of the shooting. Captain Greg Bello of the RPD stated, “We don’t yet know how many people were involved in the shooting. We’re working to sort that out and interview as many witnesses as possible.” The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward by calling either 311 or 911.

The community remains on edge as authorities continue to investigate this tragic event. The combined efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies highlight the seriousness with which this incident is being treated. As the investigation progresses, residents are encouraged to cooperate with police efforts to ensure those responsible for this violence are held accountable.
