      16-Year-Old Zay Young Fatally Shot in Jackson; Another Injured

      A deadly shooting in Jackson on Monday evening claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and left another juvenile injured. The incident occurred near Faris Street, sparking an intense police investigation and leaving the community shaken.

      Calls to the Jackson Police Department (JPD) began around 8:30 p.m., with residents reporting gunfire and a significant emergency response in the area. Responding officers, along with fire crews and EMS, quickly secured the scene on the 200 block of Faris Street, which was cordoned off with crime tape.

      According to JPD, the initial ShotSpotter alert directed officers to Preston Street shortly after 8:20 p.m. Upon further investigation, they traced the source of the gunfire to Faris Street. At the scene, they discovered two male juveniles suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

      Emergency responders transported both victims to a local hospital before they were transferred to a Memphis facility for specialized treatment. Tragically, one of the juveniles, identified as 16-year-old Zay Young, succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday morning. The other victim remains hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said.

      This tragic incident has deeply impacted the Jackson community, highlighting concerns about rising youth violence. Residents are demanding answers and justice as police work to determine what led to the shooting. No suspects have been identified, and the investigation remains active.
